Kenai River Cabin Rentals: The New Moose Cabin

Kenai River Cabin

Kenai River cabinEagles Eye Vacation Rentals has been providing vacationers with Kenai River cabins and vacation rentals for 9 years now. We have had the pleasure of meeting visitors from all over the lower 48, as well as some from several parts of the world who come to stay with us. Many of our guests come back year after year or whenever they can take the opportunity. It has been a great part of our lives for Katya and I. We originally bought our property as a little cabin in the woods to have for ourselves, and share with family and friends on their vacation time. But it’s in my nature to develop the property to maximize the comfort and usability to fish, relax, and enjoy time away from home.

We have made many different improvements to our riverfront property, some that started as small conversational suggestions from friends and family. Some of the best improvements were first mentioned by guests, offering first hand ideas as to what would be nice to have in a vacation rental during a stay with us. Some of these improvements are minimal and are not often noticed by people, but they have been noticed. And boy do we love to hear it! It’s our pleasure to follow through on good suggestions. Other improvements have been large scale and significant to the property, such as the new Moose Cabin, that is our latest Kenai River cabin rental addition. And as always, some suggestions are still in the inspirational stages.

Over the years we have had guests inquire about two bedroom units to accommodate two couples or a family with a little more privacy in one unit. That what inspired the addition of the new Kenai River cabin rental—the Moose Cabin is the small house I built to meet the need. This has been in the thoughts of my wife and I for some time and it seemed too far of a reach financially. It still seems that way, but fortunately we made it happen this year through sacrifice and hard work. Something we know all about. This major project had been in the background for a couple of years but we finally pulled the trigger during October of 2022. We broke ground and placed the foundation. This 2 bedroom and 1 and 1/2 bathroom Kenai River cabin was completed in May of 2023. All we had to do was wait for summer guests to seek the beauty and tranquility of Alaska on our “Little Piece of Heaven” on the river.

Kenai River cabinAt the beginning of a brand new cabin build like this it is, to say the least, harsh and frantic. In 2022, the month of October came in like a storm. Literally, early snow storms and very cold weather! But plans for the construction and build were laid. The cement had to be poured immediately, or even previously if I could have performed magic. The excavation started and the snow was falling by the time it was actually ready to pour the insulated cement foundation walls. The snow kept coming—it was a chore to keep it out of the crawl space and the building footprint. By the time I was able to mount the sub-floor onto the foundation there was two feet of snow and the ground was frozen solid. Putting the exterior and interior walls up to get the rafters and roof on top was really tough. Sub-zero temperatures every day met with seemingly endless shoveling was the standard. Shoveling the snow off the floor before we could land a nail into the walls and framing to advance the progress to covering it up. What a huge amount of cold work and muscle aches. This probably sounds like I’m complaining, because I am. It was incredibly hard to build during the winter of 2022 in Alaska! Kenai River cabin

As I write this update on the cabin construction, the Moose Cabin is complete. The Moose Cabin stands proudly on such a perfect footprint overlooking the Kenai River with views that bring wonder and amazement. Katya and I are so thrilled that this endeavor is finished and guests can enjoy it as their vacation home. We survived the economics of it. We came in way over budget with costs that skyrocketed, but we are thankful it is absolutely beautiful, sound, and comfortable. This chalet style Kenai River cabin is a soothing place to stay. A complete home with everything you could want during your vacation on the Kenai Peninsula…the Kenai River out front in all its glory for you.
