Date of Stay: August, 2014

If you want a thrill and sheer beauty in scenery, take a road trip from Anchorage Alaska to Sterling via Sterling Hwy #1 to this great place on the Kenai. It’s a mere 21/2 hour drive. However, it’s doubtful you can do it in that time, as you will want to stop many places to capture pictures the grandeur along the way. This is definitely awe inspiring area not matched many places in the world. When you get to Sterling, this is the place to stay on the Kenai. It has everything you need. For those who fish…well there is the river a few steps down the hill. Even without a boat, you can catch fish on the bank in front of the house. For those that don’t fish, you will not find a more peaceful location to watch the river roll on by. It’s better than any film about wildlife with bird song and water sound, and the natural beauty of wildlife in and out of the water. I have to mention the stars…there is nothing like millions of the stars sans city lights with a fire and occasional fish jumping to round out a day. Kenai is only a half hour away where people dipnet for salmon at the mouth of the Kenai…a background of snow capped mountains reflected in the bay behind them. Our hosts were wonderful; we felt right at home and even tasted fresh smoked salmon, their personal recipe. They really provided every comfort. We enjoyed sharing their piece of heaven by the Kenai.
